A $59 dental visit sounds like it must come with a catch. It does not, but it does come with details, and I would rather you know them before you walk in. Here is exactly what the $59 new patient visit at Kokopelli Dentistry of Chandler includes, what happens afterward, and who it is meant for.
What the $59 covers
The special covers three things at our Chandler office on Riggs Road:
- •A comprehensive exam with me. I look at every tooth, your gums, your bite, your jaw joints, and the soft tissue of your mouth, and I do an oral cancer screening as part of that.
- •The X-rays we need. Usually that is a set of bitewings to see between the back teeth, plus any individual images a specific tooth calls for.
- •A regular cleaning with our hygienist, when your gums are healthy enough for a regular cleaning.
That last phrase is the one honest caveat. A regular cleaning removes plaque and tartar above and just below the gumline. If your gums are inflamed and bleeding and there is tartar deep under the gums, that is gum disease, and the right treatment is a deep cleaning, which is a different procedure. If that is your situation, I will show you what I see, explain why a regular cleaning would not be doing you any favors, and give you the cost before anything is scheduled. The $59 exam and X-rays still stand.
What happens during the visit
Plan on about 80 minutes for a new patient visit. That is the block we hold so the exam and the cleaning can happen in one trip. If our hygiene schedule does not have an 80 minute opening on the day you want, we may split the visit into an exam day and a cleaning day. Same price, two shorter appointments.
You will fill out a health history first, either online before you come or on paper when you arrive. Our hygienist takes your X-rays and cleans your teeth. Then I come in, review the X-rays with you on the screen, examine you, and talk through what I found.
I explain the why behind anything I recommend. If a tooth needs a filling, you will see the cavity on the X-ray. If a tooth is fine, I will tell you it is fine. I do not recommend treatment you do not need, and I do not rush you.
What happens after
If everything looks healthy, we schedule your next cleaning and you are done. Most people are on a six month cycle.
If you need treatment, you leave with a written treatment plan and a cost estimate. If you have dental insurance, the estimate shows what your plan is expected to pay and what your share would be. If you do not, it shows our fee and your payment options, including monthly financing through Cherry or CareCredit for larger treatment.
Nothing on that plan happens the same day unless you ask for it and we have the time. You go home, think it over, and call us with questions.
Who the $59 visit is for
The special is for new patients who do not have dental insurance. If you do have insurance, we bill your plan for the visit instead, and most PPO plans cover a new patient exam, X-rays, and cleaning well. Either way you get the same exam.
It is a good fit if you have not seen a dentist in a while and want to know where you stand without a big bill. It is also a good fit for anyone new to Chandler or Sun Lakes who wants to try an office before committing.
If you want to keep coming without insurance
Patients without insurance can join our Chandler in-house membership plan. For $199 a year plus a $79 activation fee, it includes three exams, two cleanings, fluoride treatment, the X-rays you need, and 20 percent off other treatment. It is only for patients who do not have dental insurance and is not insurance. Ask our team to confirm enrollment and renewal terms. If you are insured, your plan is almost always the better deal.
Frequently asked questions
Is the $59 visit really $59?
