Dental technology that helps you feel comfortable and informed
See what we see, understand your options, and know what to expect. We use digital scans, photos, and imaging to help plan your care and explain our recommendations. Your dentist will discuss which tools are useful for your visit.
Our technology includes iTero Lumina Pro and Primescan digital scanners, Axeos 3D imaging, NOMAD Pro 2 handheld X-rays, digital X-ray sensors, panoramic imaging and intraoral cameras. Explore how each tool supports your care below.
An alternative to impression trays
If you find impression trays uncomfortable, tell us. A small handheld scanner can create a digital model of your teeth for planning a crown, clear aligners, or an appliance.
iTero Lumina Pro
This intraoral scanner creates a digital model of your teeth and bite. Seeing that model on screen can make it easier to discuss tooth alignment and understand an aligner plan.
Dentsply Sirona Primescan
Primescan records the surfaces of your teeth for a digital impression. For suitable crown and other restorative work, that model can be sent to the dental lab without a traditional impression tray.
What your visit may involve
We move the scanner around your teeth while the model appears on a screen. You can ask for a pause. The scan helps us and the dental lab plan your care; we still check the fit and your bite when your restoration or appliance is ready.
What to know before you decide
Our digital scanning tools include iTero and Primescan. The scanner and type of impression used depend on your treatment and office. A digital scan does not replace every type of dental X-ray.
See why treatment is being recommended
A photo can make a dental explanation easier to follow. Intraoral cameras let us show you an area of concern on a screen and talk through your options together.
Intraoral cameras
These small cameras take close-up photographs inside your mouth. Your dentist can show you a specific tooth or area on screen, so you can follow the explanation and ask informed questions.
What your visit may involve
A small camera takes photos inside your mouth. We can point out what we are watching, explain why treatment may help, and compare photos at later visits when useful.
What to know before you decide
Photos support an examination; they cannot show everything happening inside a tooth or below the gums. Ask us to explain anything that is unclear before deciding on treatment.
Imaging chosen for your dental needs
Dental X-rays help us assess areas that cannot be seen during an examination. We discuss which images are useful for your symptoms, dental history, or planned treatment.
Digital X-ray sensors
A sensor placed inside your mouth records an X-ray image for your dentist to review on screen. These images help assess areas between teeth and around roots that a surface photograph cannot show.
NOMAD Pro 2 handheld X-ray
NOMAD Pro 2 is a portable X-ray unit that can be positioned beside the dental chair. It works with a sensor to take an image while you remain seated; the team still positions both the unit and sensor for the view needed.
Digital panoramic X-rays
Panoramic imaging produces a broad, two-dimensional view of your teeth and jaws. It can help your dentist assess the overall area when planning care, but it is different from a three-dimensional CBCT scan.
What your visit may involve
Some images use a small sensor inside your mouth; a panoramic image uses a machine that moves around your head. A handheld X-ray unit can take images at the dental chair when appropriate.
What to know before you decide
The number and type of images depend on your needs. Tell us about recent X-rays, pregnancy, or difficulty tolerating a sensor so we can discuss your care. Digital images can also be shared with a treating specialist when needed.
A clearer view for more detailed planning
For some treatments, a three-dimensional view can help your dentist assess the area and plan next steps. We explain why a 3D scan is recommended for your particular situation.
Dentsply Sirona Axeos CBCT
Axeos uses cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to create three-dimensional views of teeth, bone and surrounding structures. For suitable implant or surgical planning, these views help your dentist assess the area from more than one angle and explain the proposed treatment.
What your visit may involve
A cone beam CT scanner, such as our Axeos system, moves around your head while you remain still. Positioning and scan time depend on the type of image needed. Ask about comfort or positioning needs before your visit.
What to know before you decide
A 3D scan is not a routine requirement for every patient. It does not guarantee a treatment outcome or remove the need for a specialist referral. We review the findings in the context of your examination.
Talk through a possible smile change
A digital model or smile preview can help you explain your goals and understand a proposed clear-aligner treatment plan before you decide.
Digital models and smile previews
A digital scan can support a visual discussion of tooth movement and treatment goals. A preview helps you ask questions about a proposed change; it does not predict every detail of your finished smile.
What your visit may involve
Your dentist assesses your teeth and bite, discusses whether aligners are suitable, and explains the plan, wear requirements, and costs. Ask what a preview can and cannot show about your case.
What to know before you decide
A preview is a simulation, not a guaranteed result. Treatment and timing vary. We offer Invisalign at Ahwatukee and ClearCorrect at Chandler.
Questions before your visit
Is every device available at both offices?
Equipment and appointments depend on the office and treatment. If you need a particular scan or have accessibility needs, call your chosen office so we can confirm the arrangements before you travel.
Does a scan or image have a separate fee?
Ask which images are included in your visit and whether additional imaging has a separate cost. We can explain the estimate and check your plan benefits. Insurance coverage depends on your specific plan.
Insurance, membership and payment optionsWhat if I am anxious or have a sensitive gag reflex?
Tell us when you request your appointment. We can discuss the steps of your visit, possible alternatives, and breaks. You can ask questions or ask us to pause during care.
