Teeth whitening can dramatically improve your appearance by giving you a brighter smile. There are two options: We can treat your teeth with Zoom in one visit, or you can take home a professional-grade whitening kit from our office.
Zoom Teeth Whitening
Zoom offers instant results, which is why Dr. Kaur prefers it—as do many patients. The process is simple: we will coat your teeth with the Zoom whitening gel. The gel will penetrate deep into your teeth. Next, we will shine the patented blue Zoom light directly onto your teeth to activate the gel. The Zoom light accelerates the oxidation process, helping the gel rapidly dissolve stains. Studies by Philips, the maker of Zoom, found that the special, ultra-intense blue light not only speeds the whitening but also gives a whiter overall result than gel alone by treating stains of all colors. Zoom treatment takes about an hour, and then you’ll leave our office with your new smile, up to 8 shades whiter.
Take-Home Tooth Whitening Kits
The at-home whitening kits Dr. Kaur provides are professional grade and do a much better job than over-the-counter kits. The active ingredient in tooth whitening gel is hydrogen peroxide, and professional-grade kits have a higher concentration of it. Our kits won’t cause any new stains or damage your existing dental work. That isn’t always true of drugstore kits. Also, our kits are formulated with a higher water content than other whitening products, making them less likely to dehydrate your teeth. This helps reduce post-whitening sensitivity.
Tooth Whitening FAQ
- Am I a candidate for tooth whitening?
As long as your teeth are healthy, you are most likely a candidate for tooth whitening. Dr. Kaur will give you a brief exam to check for cavities, which she will fill before proceeding with tooth whitening. It’s also a good idea to have your teeth cleaned before whitening because plaque and tartar will prevent the whitening gel from making good contact with your tooth enamel.
- Will whitening fix all stains?
Whitening is powerful, but some types of tooth stains are too stubborn. The antibiotic tetracycline can cause dark staining that whitening won’t fully remove. However, coffee, red wine, tea, berry, and cigarette stains will respond to teeth whitening.
- Is tooth whitening permanent?
The stains on your teeth will be gone, but new ones can still form. You can reduce staining by rinsing your mouth with water after consuming stain-causing food and drink. We can also give you a touch-up treatment every year or two.
