My sister got a smile makeover with porcelain veneers and her smile looks great. She married to a doctor and runs her own business. So, she’s got a much bigger budget for just about anything. I’m single and don’t have an impressive career. Money does not come easy for me. I already feel like a loser every time I’m around her and now her smile is just making that worse. Is there a way I can feel better about my smile if I can’t afford porcelain veneers?

Hi Paula,

It’s always hard when we feel like we don’t measure up. Don’t let your sister’s life ruin yours. You don’t need money to be impressive. In fact, I bet there are a thousand qualities you have which may even outshine your sister.
All that being said, you are here for practical advice, not a motivational speech, so lets get to it. One thing you can do which is a way more affordable smile makeover than porcelain veneers and can drastically improve your smile is to have them whitened.
You don’t need to have Zoom Whitening, which is done in office and can be a bit more pricey. I would just get at-home tray whitening through your dentist. He or she can have custom fitted trays made to your bite and provide you with professional strength whitening gel. You wear the trays at times that are convenient for you. To get the fastest results you could wear them overnight.
Bleaching teeth dramatically improves your smile, taking years, sometimes decades, off your appearance and gives your smile a youthful glow. Because you’ll be doing it with the trays, it will happen gradually. Your sister doesn’t even have to know you’re doing it but she may wonder how your smile gets prettier every time she sees you.
