My teeth are uneven and my dentist is suggesting Zoom Whitening. Will that work for me?
Paula
Dear Paula,
It depends on what you mean by uneven. If you are talking about unevenness in shape, then, yes, Zoom Whitening will work. One thing to consider, though, is you may want to straighten and whiten your teeth at the same time. You could use Invisalign to straighten your teeth, which will allow you to align your bite without anyone even knowing. Invisalign uses clear aligners. Those same aligners can double as teeth whitening trays. this means your dentist can provide you with professional-strength whitening gel to wear in the aligners allowing you to do two procedures at once and saving you money.
If, however, you are saying that your teeth are uneven in color, say from something like spots on your teeth, then no, Zoom Whitening would not be a good idea in those cases. All teeth whitening is done uniformly. That means the spots will grow brighter along with your teeth. It would have the opposite effect and make those spots more noticeable. The way to deal with spots like that is to see a cosmetic dentist and have him gently grind off the discoloration and repair it with dental bonding.
